Degeneracy

“In a world whirling with ‘likes’ and ‘posts,’ ‘uploading,’ ‘reblogging,’ ‘commenting’ ‘tweeting,’ ‘re-posting,’ ‘sharing,’ do you ever feel like you’ve shared so much, nothing truly belongs to you anymore? No memories that are just for you, no funny moments that are pearls of intimacy between you and the people who were there, not fleeting newsflashes for hundreds of semi-strangers. Do you ever get the feeling you’re recording and retelling so much of life that you forget to actually enjoy those moments in a way that is only truly just for you? I do.
I think this comes from a fear of missing out on life, missing out on the life others give you when they ‘like’ or acknowledge your picture/ quote/ output. It comes from not wanting to be left out of or forgotten, but I think, it also comes from the fear of being alone. Of being with the self and having to answer the question, ‘now what?’ I think that I can’t be scared of that, there’s too much information and not enough of my self reflection, that’s not the kind of life I want to live. Divorced from the self is no way to be.”
